How Can Pet Therapy Help with My Fibromyalgia?

I have three dogs of my own and I know that they give me comfort, companionship and help keep  me focused on that which is important.  The ability to love unconditionally.

Decades of research have shown that pet ownership have positive effects on your health, and data suggests that pets can blunt the body’s pathological response to physical and psychological pain.  Previous research has shown benefits of owning horses.  This information is now available regarding pet therapy help and fibromyalgia.

Some of the benefits of pet therapy are:

*Higher survival rate after serious illness

    *Decreased feeling of loneliness

    *Encouragement of physical activity

    *Encouragement of socialization

    *Lower cholesterol (triglycerides)

    *Lower blood pressure levels

    *Reduced stress and anxiety

    *Fewer minor health problems

    *Less frequent medical visits

*The increased perception of the ability to cope with illness or trauma

*Enhancing self-esteem and cognitive development in children

I can tell you this.  When I have had a stressful day at work I can talk to my dogs and they are really great listeners.  There is nothing more welcoming that set 3 tails wagging a mile a minute when I walk in that door with happy barks accompanying the tail wagging.

Consider that fact that if my dogs can help me then most  likely pet therapy can help with fibromyalgia.

I think that pets can be part of the natural  pain solution as an adjust or holistic approach to fibromyalgia.
